Name and Intended Use The Foot and Mouth Disease Virus Non-Structural Protein Antibody Rapid Test (FMD-NSP Ab) is a lateral flow immunochromatographic assay for the qualitative detection of infected viral FMDV antibodies in animal's serum, plasma. FMDV 3ABC recombinant was applied in this assay.
General Information Foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) is a highly contagious viral infection primarily of cloven -hoofed domestic animals, such as cattle, pigs, sheep, goats, deer, and water buffalo. In many countries the disease is controlled by vaccinations that consist of (partly) purified structural proteins (SP) of the FMD virus, and therefore vaccinated animals only elicit antibodies directed against the structural proteins. Non structural protein (NSP) is expressed only by replicating viruses, and inactivated vaccines are purified to remove the cellular proteins and NSP. Therefore, only animals that have been infected with wild type develop antibodies against NSP. It is important to differentiate SP and NSP antibodies in countries that use vaccination to control FMDV outbreaks to discriminate wild type infections and immune response to vaccination.
Product Principle The Foot and Mouth Disease Virus Non-Structural Protein Antibody Rapid Test is based on sandwich lateral flow immunochromatographic assay. The test device has a testing window for the observation of assay running and result reading. The testing window has an invisible T (test) zone and a C (control) zone before running the assay. When the treated sample was applied into the sample hole on the device, the liquid will laterally flow through the surface of the test strip and react with the pre-coated FMDV 3ABC antigens. If there are anti-3ABC antibodies in the specimen, a visible T line will appear. The C line should always appear after a sample is applied, which indicates a valid result. By this means, the device can accurately indicate the presence of FMDV 3ABC antibodies in the specimen.
